How a web proxy behaves
A proxy site is a web page where you type an address and it fetches that page for you, then shows it to you. Whatever site you ask for gets the proxy's address, never yours, and that is its entire job: it works for one browser tab, and it usually cannot cover apps, games or system services.
A tunnel works differently. It wraps all traffic from the device and sends it encrypted to a server, so every app takes the same path.
The trust problem
When you use a proxy site, its operator sees everything you do in that tab, unless the page you open uses HTTPS and the proxy keeps that intact, which many do not. Free proxy sites live on adverts or on selling data, and some inject their own code into the pages they relay. Logging in to an account through one means handing a stranger your password.
So a proxy site is the wrong tool for anything personal. Use it, if at all, for a public page you would be happy to read on a bus.
A quick safety check before using a proxy of any kind
- Does it say who runs it and what it keeps?
- Does the page load over HTTPS, and does the padlock stay after the page opens?
- Does it ask you to install a plug-in, an APK or a certificate?
- Does it insert adverts into the pages you load?
- Would you be comfortable if its owner saw your tab?
Proxy servers for games
Searches for "proxy server" are sometimes paired with a mobile game and a download file. Packages passed around outside the official stores can carry malware, and an app that asks for your game login hands that login to a third party. We do not recommend any of them, and this page will not point you to one.
If a game's own servers are slow or blocked on your network, the sensible steps are to check with the game's publisher and your network's rules, not to install an unknown file. Whether a game is available in your country is decided by its publisher and local law.
Proxy or tunnel for your own use
If you want the whole device covered on an untrusted network, a VLESS tunnel with a client such as Hiddify or v2rayNG does that. The key comes from the Telegram bot, with no account, and works on several devices at once. It does not make an unsafe download safe, nor a weak password strong. The checklist above is there so you can judge both options yourself, since a seller wrote this page - drafting help came from a language model, with the editors reading the text against the live service.
Some schools and offices block proxy sites on purpose, and opening one there can break the network's rules.
Questions
How does a proxy site differ from a tunnel on the whole phone?
A proxy relays one tab through a server. A tunnel covers the entire device.
Does a proxy site encrypt my traffic?
Only as far as the page you visit already does through HTTPS. The proxy itself may see the contents.
Can I log in to my accounts through a proxy site?
It is not wise. The operator could capture the login details.
Why do game proxy files keep appearing in searches?
They draw clicks because many players want faster servers, which is exactly why they attract bad actors.
What does a tunnel cover that a proxy site does not?
Apps, games and background services, because the whole device is routed through it.
Is there a safe free proxy site?
Without knowing who runs it and what it keeps, assume not. Treat any free one as public.
